Fire Safety Policy

Following the introduction of the Integrated Risk Management Planning (IRMP) process in 2003, decisions regarding policy determination and resource allocation are now taken at Authority level to a greater extent than at any time in the past. As a consequence, active participation in policy setting (authority role) as opposed to implementation (managerial role) has never been more important. This is evidenced by the increased expectation of Member involvement as outlined in IRMP, within the Fire and Rescue Framework Document and through external scrutiny and inspection e.g. the recent pay verification exercise. On this basis, it is imperative that policy proposals are fully considered and endorsed by the Authority prior to implementation.

One such key area relates to fire safety where agreed authority aims arising out of IRMP and the much greater emphasis on prevention, must be translated into a workable policy which in turn directs and informs fire and rescue service activity. With such considerations in mind, the Combined Fire Authority has now agreed a comprehensive fire safety policy framework.

Full details of the Authority’s fire safety policy are contained in the documents below.
